This is a bit about 'my story' and why this event means so much to me.

On the 7th of January 2006, my family's life changed forever it was the day I went to the hospital with my mother to be by her side when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The following three years were to be a discovery of another world I never knew existed. It was a world full of visits to oncologists, scans, blood tests, chemotherapy treatments, radiation therapy, hot packs and hair loss.

More importantly, the time spent waiting at the hospital provided an incredible opportunity to meet some of the most incredibly inspiring women I will ever meet. There were tears, laughter and fear but more importantly hope and determination to battle and survive this horrendous disease from these amazing women.

In honour, of my incredible and beloved mum and aunty, on 26–27 October, 2013, I'll be participating in a very special event called The Weekend to End Women's Cancers™ benefiting the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) and Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH).

I'll walk approximately 60 kilometres in two days with thousands of other women and men. The proceeds will support breast and gynaecologic cancers research, treatment, and services.

My mother fought this unscrupulous disease with an unwavering determination and strength that I will always admire. Unfortunately, she lost this battle on May the 19th 2009.

I am participating in this walk to help raise funds to make a difference for those that battle this disease today and in the future, with the ultimate hope that cancer will only be read about in history books.

I've committed to raising at least $2,000, but I've set my personal goal at $2500.

Please visit my personal site to make an online donation to support me.

Alternatively, you may like to attend An Arvo in the Redlands - High Tea (Fundraiser), for an afternoon of high tea fun!

I'm walking so far to do something bold about all women's cancers. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me.

I would love to hear from anyone one who has training ideas, fundraising suggestions, has done something similar, or is interested in doing some training walks, volunteering etc.
